Ski ing Expedition - Oscar ii Land
«The route of the legends»

This ski expedition is like walking on the moon. The landscape are incredible beautiful and have this never seenbefore touch! Nunatak`s (mountains coming straight up from the glacier)  in combination with skiing on high altitude glacier soil makes this starts something for life. We head up from from Borebukta on the north side of Isfjorden, skiing northwards and ends up in the science settlement of Ny-Ålesund.

The expedition is for you who enjoy outdoor life in winter, a pulka behind you,  and sharing nature experiences with others. The trip will take place in majestic glacier landscape and you may enjoy the arctic silence far away from the civilization. We will arrange this trip both northwards and southwards, see departures.

Day to day program

Her we go, the startup day!

The guide will meet you at the airport and welcome you to Svalbard. In town we eat lunch, while the guide gives you all the information you need about the trip. Then we pack the sledges and make the last purchases, always nice to have some extra snacks. We get the equipment on board in Spitsbergen Express, the boat that will take us over Isfjorden to Borebukta, finally our adventure starts! We establish camp, drink some coffee and start to do a lot of talkings, expectations and experiences. During the trip all of us will be a polar bear watch during the night. We talk a lot about polar bears and you will have the flare gun available on your watch.

Day 2-6.

During the first few days the guide will give you an introduction to the glacier's amazing life, and what distinguishes Svalbard glaciers from mainland glaciers. We start slowly so we get the feeling with ropes, pulkas and skies. We walk through the breathtaking landscape, north towards NY-Ålesund. The days now consists of skiing during the day, and camp for the night. We aim for distances of approximately 17-20 km a day and set up a new camp every night.

Gathering, reflection and exchange of experience will be a focus throughout the whole trip. The guide decide route depending on weather and snow conditions. He/She will tell you about Svalbard's history, geology and wildlife.

If we have time and energy enough we use one day to climb one of the many peaks protruding up from the glacier. After 5 nights in a tent, we will head towards NY-Ålesund along the the coast Kongsfjorden. Drift ice and thousand of birds will be our companions the last leg towards this world class science destination.

The day back to civilization
We will be picked up in NY-Ålesund or Borebukta  for a nice, warm cruise back to Longyearbyen. If we have enough time and weather permits it, we'll take a stop on the "Poole Pynten" and visit the Walrus colony there. On board the boat we enjoy warm lunch while we cruise in to Longyearbyen. If the group decides, 100% of them do, we have a joint dinner in Longyearbyen, nice food and refreshments all night long!
